In September 2022 we let customers select the paint scheme for our next HO scale Milwaukee, Racine & Troy freight car. After the online votes were tallied, this was the winning design. Milwaukee, Racine & Troy 50-ton two-bay offset-side hopper No. 16003 (era: Oct. 1944+) is an easy-to-build HO scale kit produced by Accurail using the manufacturer’s 7700-series tooling.
Features on the offset-side two-bay hopper include an injection-molded plastic body; outlet gates; draft-gear box/bolster/sill stub assemblies; a brake wheel; an air reservoir, control valve, and brake cylinder with lever; end braces; end frames with stirrup steps; and slope sheets. Accurail coal load No. 304 (sold separately) will fit in the 50-ton hopper.
Additional parts include solid-bearing trucks, Delrin engineering plastic wheelsets, two steel weights, two 2-56 x 3/16” screws, and two 2-56 x ½” screws. The kit includes Accumate knuckle couplers with modeler-installed trip pins. The car is also designed to accept Accumate Proto:HO couplers (not included) with minor modification. Written and illustrated instructions take modelers through the steps needed to assemble the hopper.
The hopper, produced in the United States of America, is offered in one road number.
