U.S. Landing Craft of WWII Vol. 1

It’s difficult to imagine how the Allies could have triumphed in World War II without the help of a class of vessels known as landing craft. These humble boats came in variety of shapes and sizes all designed to land men and materiel on the beach, a task frequently done under fire.

Several of the smaller craft of this type are detailed in U.S. Landing Craft if WWII, Vol. 1 — The LCP(L), LCV, LCVP, LCS(L), LCM, and LCI by David Doyle. This 112-page hardcover book from Schiffer’s Legends of Warfare series brims with photos of the landing craft either from the factory, in operation during the war, or in museums. The images are well reproduced and accompanied by detailed captions. If you are looking to build a model of one of these ships, this book is a good place to start for reference and inspiration.
