Description

Growing up in the far North Side of Chicago, Lou Gerard took interest in both trains and photography at a young age, all starting with the gift of a Brownie Bullet at the age of 9.  Since then, he has documented the transformation of Metra and its predecessors, South Shore, CTA, Amtrak, Freight Movements, Steam Specials and Great Lakes Boats for six decades.

Dispatch No. 10 from the Shore Line Historical Society features this transformation with over 200 photographs, mostly in vivid color.
