Description

A product of the heady days of the airline travel in the 1960s, the DC-10 was one of several widebody designs that were designed to meet growing demand. A few high-profile accidents halted production early, but redesigns saw the airliner serve passenger flights until 2014. DC-10s and the follow up MD-11 continue flying as cargo aircraft today.

Published by Schiffer, this deluxe 144-page hardcover details the development of the aircraft, including the background of Douglas’ long history of developing commercial aircraft as well as the rush for widebody airliners. After that chapters examine the aircraft as an airliner, refueler, firefighting tanker, and flying hospital. The second half of the book looks at the successor MD-11 in as much detail. Photos abound providing details and inspiration in equal measure.

Aaron Skinner, Editor of FineScale Modeler:

As a fan of airliner modeling, I know that good references for commercial aircraft can be hard to find. I am also a fan of the DC-10 having flown Continental’s trijets across the Pacific a few times in the early 1990s. So, I was thrilled to get my hands on Wolfgang Borgmann’s McDonnell Douglas DC-10/MD-11: A Legends of Flight Illustrated History.
